Play NieR:Automata on AMD Radeon RX580

2018-12-10 - NieR and Drakengard

NieR:Automata is sure a game of masterpiece directed by Yoko Taro (横尾太郎). It started the story by the end of NieR:Gestalt(Replicant), and continues to the world with the extinction of human beings.

However, for players installed AMD Radeon RX580, the experience of playing might not be good because the game might encounter a random hang due to the waiting for hUMA (this results the white-screen) or game crashing on load.

To solve this problem, you might want to install the specific driver for graphic card. You might want to install AMD Radeon Software Crimson Relive 17.5.2 in order to fix it.

Here is the release notes from AMD official and corresponding download links: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-17-5-2

My computer where RX580 is installed is the Asus ROG-Strix GL702ZC-WB74, the first laptop installing AMD Ryzen Eight-Core Processor. This graphic card is a 4GB-GDDR5-Video-Memory edition. I’d say the CPU is powerful, but the GPU is not so good.

The gaming issue also applies to RX480 as well. However, I don’t own that card any more since I have already sold them, so I haven’t test if this driver version could fix the playing issue. A known driver version that may play NieR:Automata well is 16.11.5: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-16-11-5

For AMD Radeon RX-Vega, I don’t know. I am not a rich gamer so that I can’t afford too much on buying graphic cards and testing them one by one.
